THE ORIGINS

THE FIRST STEPS IN CORNELLÀ

Unió Esportiva Cornellà, as we know it today, was officially founded in 1951 through the merger of several local clubs: CF Cornellà, Acadèmia Junyent, Atlético Padró and, later, Escuela Sant Miquel. Its roots, however, go back even further, to the industrial Cornellà of the 1920s.

Before adopting its current identity, organised football in the city was closely linked to FC Cables Eléctricos, a team associated with the local electrical cable factory that formed part of Cornellà’s industrial working community. From those origins emerged many of the values that continue to define the club today: hard work, a strong sense of belonging, humility, and a green identity built generation after generation.

DECADES OF GROWTH AND ROOTS

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, UE Cornellà consolidated its place in Catalan football while strengthening its role as both a sporting and social hub for the city. As Cornellà grew, evolved, and became an increasingly diverse community, the club grew alongside it, driven by players, families, coaches, and volunteers.

Vía Férrea became the emotional heart of the club. That modest yet iconic ground was, for decades, the Green Home: a place of community football, youth development, neighbourhood Sundays, and shared memories. It was there that much of UE Cornellà’s competitive spirit and strong sense of community were forged.

PROMOTION AND CUP HISTORY

The 1990s and early 2000s marked a period of sporting and institutional consolidation. The club continued to grow from the grassroots, strengthening its structure and competing with ambition in Catalan football. During this time, UE Cornellà established itself as a respected and recognisable club, renowned for its strong commitment to youth development.

That work continued to bear fruit in the years that followed and reached one of its greatest milestones in 2014, when the first team secured promotion to Segunda División B for the first time by defeating Izarra in the promotion play-offs. It was a historic achievement for the club and the culmination of a journey built on patience, youth development, and unwavering conviction.

A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS

In 2012, the club left behind the iconic Vía Férrea and inaugurated the Nou Municipal, a new home for an era of greater sporting ambition. The move to a new stadium symbolised the transition from a deeply rooted legacy to a modern facility, designed to support the club’s continued growth while preserving its connection to its origins.

Over the past decade, UE Cornellà has reached a new level of sporting achievement and national recognition, with unforgettable Copa del Rey nights, including the clash against Real Madrid in 2014 and the famous victory over Atlético de Madrid in 2021. Today, under new ownership and driven by an ambitious vision for the future, the challenge is to keep growing without losing the club’s essence. Green, always moving forward.
